“Hawaii has been good to us, and we want to be good to Hawaii" - Chef Peter Merrman
On December 11, 2015, 120 Maui residents gathered to celebrate the launch of Merriman’s Hawaii, Peter Merriman’s debut cookbook at Merriman’s Kapalua. Guests experienced live cooking demonstrations and recipe tasting of three cookbook recipes. All proceeds from the event benefitted Hospice Maui, Maui’s non-profit provider of quality compassionate Hospice care.
Event raises $60,000 for The Maui Food Bank
In September 2015, Merriman’s Kapalua hosted “Blue Hawaii”, a fundraiser for the Maui Food Bank’s Aloha Backpack Buddies program, a program that provides backpacks filled with nutritious meals for children who are at risk of going hungry when no school-based meals are available. The event raised enough money to provide 11,000 (one full year) of backpacks filled with food for children in need living in Maui County. Chef Peter Merriman’s personal philosophy is summed up in his observation, “At Merriman's, we believe in sharing our success and giving back to our local communities. Hawaii has been good to us, and we want to be good to Hawaii.”
On December 14, 2013, Merriman’s Waimea, Peter Merriman’s flagship restaurant celebrated its 25th anniversary as the Home of Hawaii Regional Cuisine. The “All Big Island Grown” garden party honored Big Island farmers, ranchers and the local community that has supported the restaurant for over two decades. Merriman’s donated $25,000 to local charities including The Food Basket, the Kahilu Theatre, Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship, Hawaii Island Land Trust and the Waimea School Garden.
